National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes policecommunity partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The event promotes positive relationships between neighbors, law enforcement and other first responders to build and strengthen communities.

This year, St. Charles County first responders will host the event at New Melle Sports and Recreation, 4700 Hwy. Z, from 4 to 8 p.m. The evening will feature interactive activities and/or hand out items for children along with opportunities to learn about first responders and what they do. Equipment, vehicles and even helicopters will be on display. Admission will be free, but attendees are asked to bring canned goods to be traded for chances to win baskets or other items. All donated canned goods will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in New Melle.

Immaculate Heart of Mary will participate! As St. Michael the Archangel is the patron saint of police officers and firefighters, and in keeping with our practice of reciting the St. Michael Prayer after communion, we will have on hand some St. Michael-related items to distribute. We will have a beautiful St. Michael statue to raffle off. There are also plans to have an activity for the kids that evening. We would like your help!! If you can help us for an hour, or two, or all evening please let us know by calling the parish office. And THANKS!!!
