The Saint Vincent DePaul Society Food Pantry at IHM provides a valuable service to the residents of New Melle and the surrounding area by providing much needed assistance to those in need of food and household items. One of the biggest contributors to this is the annual Scouting For Food Campaign that is put on by the Boy Scouts of America. Each year our food pantry receives much needed supplies through the effort of the Boy Scouts. On average, this effort provides over 2 million items to food pantries in the greater St Louis area.
This year the Boy Scouts will be distributing bags to area homes on November 16 and picking the items up on November 23. For 2024 there will be a shortage of scouts available in the New Melle area which is going to have a negative impact on the IHM Food Pantry. To try and minimize this impact scouts from Troop 856, which is sponsored by IHM, will also hand out the blue bags the weekend of November 16 prior to all Masses outside the entrance to church.
Anyone able to contribute is encouraged to take a bag home after Mass that weekend and bring it back the following weekend with any nonperishable food items they can spare. These items can be dropped off the weekend of November 23 at Founders Hall.
The IHM Food Pantry plays an especially important role as we enter into the holiday season, helping to make sure everyone in our area has a Happy Thanksgiving and joyous Christmas and New Year. Please consider joining in on November 16 and 23. God Bless.
