Road Trip to the Chrism Mass

Posted on March 28, 2019 in: General News

On Holy Thursday morning the Archbishop, joined by the priests of the Archdiocese, gather at the Cathedral to celebrate the Chrism Mass. This Mass manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop. Here the Archbishop blesses three oils — the oil of catechumens, the oil of the infirm and holy chrism — which will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the Archdiocese for the year. As our Archbishop blesses these three oils at the Chrism Mass this year, our hearts turn to our gracious Lord who bestows His infinite love and mercy to us through these sacraments. Let us also pray for our bisho...

Dear parishioners, May the joy of the Risen Christ touch and transform your lives! I pray that the peace that Jesus offered to the apostles and those gathered on that first Easter morning will be experienced personally and profoundly by each of you. I am reminded of St. Augustine's thoughts on the experience of Lent and Easter: “Because there are these two periods of time - the one that now is, beset with the trials and troubles of this life, and the other yet to come, a life of everlasting serenity and joy - we are given two liturgical seasons, one before Easter and the other after. The season before Easte...

On the evening of Holy Thursday, Lent comes to an end, and we enter into the “Three Days” at the center of our year: The Easter Triduum. On these Three Days, our Church is at its best. In scripture, ritual, and song we proclaim the heart of what we believe and celebrate throughout the year. We gather often – at church, at home, – during the Triduum to reflect on the central reality of our faith, the death and resurrection of Jesus. During these Three Days, we renew our baptism and new Catholics are initiated. These are the “highest holy days” of Christianity. You are invited to mak...

Dear Parishioners, As we enter into Lent the Church urges us to make it a season of service and sacrifice for God and neighbor. All of our Lenten disciplines should free us to love God and neighbor with greater joy and zeal. May our fasting and abstinence increase our hunger for God. May our prayers challenge and encourage us to seek God always. May our almsgiving make us more aware of God’s bountiful blessings for us. These common Lenten disciplines are meant to make God the center of our lives and the focal point of our desires. One of the greatest things about being Catholic is the immense spiritual treasury...

Dear parishioners, Please take time to read Archbishop Carlson’s statement on Immigration. We pray for a solution that will welcome those seeking to share in the life of our nation while at the same time recognizing any who would wish malice upon us. Peace, Fr. Tom FROM ARCHBISHOP CARLSON: The recent executive order to turn away refugees and to narrow or close our nation’s doors to our migrant sisters and brothers who are fleeing hunger, hardships, violence and persecution does not represent the best of our Catholic and American values and ideals. As Catholics, we appreciate the sensitivity shown to Ch...

Dear Parishioners

Posted on February 01, 2017 in: General News, Pastor's Thoughts

A little more than a year ago I mentioned the formation of a few new organizations and committees in our parish family. I have not forgotten about the various groups that were brought to my attention last year, but alas - have been lax and inattentive. My hope is to assemble the interested individuals and let them run with the ball. I will do my best to help these groups get rolling.
